A letter from Gaza:
I never imagined I’d seek help, but the genocide robbed me of my job and my wife’s, at a time when I was the father of a beautiful one-year-old girl Dania, and welcoming a new baby son. Life didn’t give my son Omar the chance to be born in a hospital. He was instead born at a time when ambulances couldn’t reach our house because our neighborhood was under bombardment.
The solution was a home birth, where our neighbor, a midwife, succeeded in saving my child’s life under the most difficult circumstances and with the simplest of supplies. Omar was born, alhamdulillah, but the war didn’t end. Due to the food shortage in Gaza, my child suffers from severe curvature in his feet, at a time when we cannot provide vitamins or foods containing calcium due to their high price, resulting from their extreme scarcity in the markets.
Not only Omar, but Dania, now three years old, also suffers from malnutrition. There is no clean water or healthy food, which prevents her from gaining weight. We are trying hard to maintain her weight, but famine has returned to threaten us again, at a time when her body has not recovered from the previous famine.
This isn’t the only problem that prompted me to seek help. Before the war, my wife was also completing her studies as a master’s student in Arabic. However, she is now unable to complete her studies because she cannot afford the fees imposed to obtain her degree. I have searched extensively for work, but none have been available because I have sustained injuries to my hands and feet, preventing me from performing most of the jobs currently available in the Gaza Strip.
The right to life, food, and education are our most basic needs, and these now require a great deal of effort to achieve. The assistance I will receive from you will save my children’s lives, help me treat my hands and feet so I can return to work, and enable my wife to complete her master’s thesis.
This is Omar in the moments after he was just born. The midwife, and other women who helped both him along with his mother were incredibly brave and he was born during bombardment.
This Ismaiel, The father of Dania and Omar who is injured but remains an advocate, trying to help his family survive and have support.
A note from the organizer:
Hi My name is Sophie, I am a 24 year old American girl and I am helping in any way that I can to support families directly. I was connected to this family through a mutual friend who used to live in Gaza and is currently in diaspora in the US. I can confirm the validity of this request for aid, and having donated funds before, can guarantee that any funds you donate WILL reach this family.
I know on the outside of Gaza, things are increasingly difficult to keep up with but please for a second, pause, and give this story your attention because it is a testament to the resilience and determination of Palestinian people that they continue to reach out and advocate for their lives.
This story shows how much the attack on Palestinian lives is also an attack on disability rights, women’s rights, reproductive justice, and education. Help support a family’s life and freedom by donating today <3 It is with great sadness I write this update. Malak, the mother of Omar and Dania was martyred Sunday June 22, 2025 at 27 years old. Some words from her sister about the things she enjoyed: "She always liked getting new clothes and stuff for Dania and Omar. She always loved to take care of them. She always used to think how to make their life better, and Ismail's life of course. She enjoyed teaching and learning new things at the same time. She was doing the last checks on her master degree. She always bought the best food for her children even with the famine. She would constantly brainstorm toys for her children to improve their abilities. She enjoyed doing everything makes the life better for her and her family." Many have generously donated thus far- and your support and compassion are appreciated. Please continue to share this fundraiser. Funds will be directed to her two children and their father. With uninterrupted air strikes from IOF and worsening famine- the situation in Gaza is dire. Your continued support can still provide food and shelter as supplies grow increasingly scarce. May the family have strength for their unending grief and may this genocide end. Thank you all for your generosity. Manos Por Palestina
